A conversation with PUMA Ocean Racing bowman Shannon Falcone
20.05.12
In 2010, he was on BMW Oracle Racing’s extended crew, winner of the 33rd America’s Cup, and he has been a part of the Mascalzone Latino (2000) and Luna Rossa (2007) America's Cup campaigns. Falcone who is a team member with ORACLE Racing for the 34th America's Cup, which will launch this summer in in San Francisco this summer, said that being chosen for the VOR was sheer luck. So, hopefully it’s good sailing all they way through the doldrums, and hopefully we’re through there quickly. A: After an awesome departure from Itajai, Brazil, with thousands of spectators, and a really good lap around the bay, it was really great sailing. I haven’t spent a lot of time on this boat, but the hope is that boat speed is good and we manage to keep a hold on the lead we have. No stranger to PUMA, Shannon was part of the team for the 2008-09 edition of the race, serving as trimmer and pitman for eight legs. Once you’re through, the trade winds should hold you, then it’s a straight track to Miami. The following is an interview I conducted with Shannon during Leg 6 of VOR with only 1000 miles before his arrival in Miami.
