Where do I find old automobile reliability/ quality surveys?

I'm writing a research paper on why American cars were inferior to foreign cars from the past 20 years. Despite what your feelings are, where can i find old reliability and quality reports? And yes I know recently American cars have come a long way, but

I would try to reach someone at Consumer Reports. They're an unbiased, third-party consumer product reviewer, and they test LOTS of cars. They should have archived info on Japanese vs US auto quality for the time frame you're researching.
