The chairmanship at the coming summit of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation organization (APEC) together with the recent entry to the World Trade Organization (the WTO) opens new prospects for development and new markets for Russia. Russia can use its chairperson status at the
APEC summit for further economic development of its Far East region and Eastern Siberia, head of the UN information center in Moscow Alexander Gorelic says. In more than 20 years of its existence the organization has become the driving force of the global integration in the Asian Pacific region, where 40% of the global population lives. The APEC comprises 21 countries of the Asian Pacific region. There is a consensus of opinions between the UN experts that the restoration of the global economy will start in the Asian-Pacific region.
